The meaning of "inch"

When describing the size of a display screen, we usually use inches as the unit. The "inch" here refers to the diagonal of the screen, not the length or width. For example, a "5-inch TFT display screen" refers to a display screen with a diagonal length of 128.5 mm (5 inches = 5*25.4 mm = 128.5 mm).

Continuing with the example of a 5-inch display, 7 inches only represents the diagonal of the display, so the ratio of the width and height of the display is not unique (the same diagonal can have several combinations of aspect ratios). Therefore, to accurately locate the size of a 5-inch display, the aspect ratio should also be stated. Common display aspect ratios are generally 4:3, 1:1, and 16:9.
